The Upstand Is a 40-Gram Carbon Fiber Kickstand Folds up for Storage in Rider's Pocket

The Upstand is a 40-gram carbon fiber kickstand that folds up for storage in the rider's pocket while riding. The stand attaches to the bike via a tab under the rear quick release that mates to a magnetized rod.

"As a life-long cyclist, I noticed after group rides how people would lay their $10k bikes on the ground, lean them up against other bikes, basically begging them to get scratched or have someone accidentally stomp on their $3k carbon wheel," said Garrett Blake, president of  Upstanding Bicycle Company, the Upstand's maker. "I knew there had to be a good, light weight way to stand bikes up independently worthy of the cost of these high-tech machines."

The Upstand has a two-piece carbon fiber tube with a 6061 T6 anodized aluminum insert, neodymium axial magnet, a "tent-pole" style shock cord, and a rubber foot. Total weight added to the bike is the 15 gram tab that fits on the quick release skewer, between the dropout and QR lever. The stand itself weighs 25 grams.

Models are available to fit 700c, 29-inch, 650b, 26-inch, recumbent and 20-inch bicycles.
