DreamWorks Enters Children's Tablet Space with DreamTab

Features include Fuhu's WIngs Learning System, video art lessons from DreamWorks animators, an app store and Nabi Play

Hollywood studio DreamWorks is entering the children's tablet space with its Android-powered DreamTab.

The firm has partnered with US tech company Fuhu to create the tablet, available in both eight and 12-inch versions, and it was unveiled at CES 2014.

Features will include Fuhu's Wings Learning System, parental controls, video art lessons from DreamWorks animators, an app store housing games, music, films, e-books as well as Nabi Play featuring children's shows from DreamWorks, Nickelodeon, Disney and Cartoon Network

"Similar to the entrepreneurial nature of Fuhu, there is a founder-led spirit of innovation at DreamWorks Animation which permeates the studio and inspires them to create compelling content, regardless of the medium," said Jim Mitchell, CEO of Fuhu.

"They are true experts in crafting exceptional family entertainment with a unique understanding of and passion for technology."

Jim Mainard, head of digital strategy, DreamWorks Animation, added: "Fuhu grabbed our attention when they came on the market because they single-handedly made a quantum leap forward in revolutionising the kids tech space; as their company grew, we saw an incredible opportunity to join with them to take the overall tablet experience to a whole new level.

"The DreamTab posed a compelling challenge not only to our filmmakers and artists to create content for this new medium, but also for our engineers and innovators who worked hand-in-hand with the Fuhu team to develop the consumer-facing side of this groundbreaking technology."

A Fuhu spokesperson has stated that the eight-inch version will cost less than $300 in the US when it goes on sale in the spring. Both DreamTab models will go on sale in the rest of the world later this year.
