Just four months after the Connected Cree LED Bulb's launch in January, Cree Inc of Durham, NC, USA has announced its compatibility with home automation firm SmartThings (part of the Samsung Global Innovation Center).
"Cree is committed to collaborating with other industry leaders to provide connected bulbs that deliver better light experiences by addressing the shortcomings of today's lighting solutions," says chief marketing officer Betty Noonan. "The Connected Cree LED Bulb is designed for compatibility with existing market-leading platforms, as well as those yet to come, so consumers can feel confident that their investments are protected and designed to work with new smart hubs well into the future," she adds.
Fully dimmable and controllable through the SmartThings app, the 60W-replacement Connected Cree LED Bulb consumes 81% less energy and has a rated lifetime of 25,000 hours, backed by a three-year warranty.
"Our goal at SmartThings continues to be to maximize flexibility and freedom of choice so that users can connect and control all of their favorite devices through one simple interface and open system," says SmartThings's VP of business development Justin Wong.
Just like the Cree LED Bulb, the Connected Cree LED Bulb emits a warm, omnidirectional light due to its 4Flow Filament Design, says the firm. This creates a compact, optically balanced light source inside a durable, shatter-proof housing that delivers 815 lumens with a soft-white 2700K color temperature, it adds.
The Connected Cree LED Bulb is available now online and in The Home Depot (for $14.97). SmartThings connectivity is available now.
