Japanese carmaker Mazda Motor (MMC) is planning to establish a production and sales joint venture with its Malaysian local distributor Bermaz Motor in 2012.
According to the carmaker, the new JV will further enhance its business and brand strength in Malaysia.
Following the formation of the new JV, Mazda is planning to start local assembly of its CX-5 crossover early in 2013, with a capacity of 3,000 CX-5 vehicles produced per year.
The company has begun the local assembly of Mazda3 in 2011.
Mazda president and CEO, board representative director and chairman Takashi Yamanouchi said the company's sales in Malaysia have shown consistent growth since it had started doing business with Bermaz in 2008.
"Yamanouchi In the last financial year we achieved record sales results of approximately 6,000 units and one percent of the market share," Yamanouchi said.
As per the Mazda's Structural reform plan, the carmaker has a sales target of 150,000 units for overall ASEAN region for the fiscal year ending March 2016.
