The toy giant is focusing its efforts on the Chinese market with 22 new stores planned for the region.
Toys R Us has revealed its plans to have opened 90 new stores across the globe by the end of the year.
The toy giant's growth plan includes taking the retailer to new locations, the relocation of several stores and the opening of 33 licensed stores.
The company’s most significant expansion plans for the year are in China and Southeast Asia, where the firm has already begun operating several of the 22 new stores in China and eight planned new location in Malaysia.
Expansion in this region remains a priority for Toys R Us, and by the end of the year it plans to operate 76 stores in 35 cities throughout China.
“International growth remains an important area of investment for the company and we continue to see significant opportunities for expansion, especially in China and Southeast Asia,” said Antonio Urcelay, chairman of the board and chief executive officer, Toys R Us Inc.
“Toys R Us is one of the most recognised retail brands in the world, and with the opening of approximately 90 new stores globally this year, we are proud to expand our footprint, making toys R Us more accessible to parents and kids throughout the world.”
Among the areas being targeted heavily by the firm is South Africa with a planned 17 new stores by the close of the year, five new stores in the Philippines, five new stores in Germany, eight new stores in Malaysia and 22 in China.
