Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturer Scania has won an automobile supply contract from Mexico City's public transport system.
Under the deal, the manufacturer will deliver 62 buses, including 52 articulated Scania K 360 Euro 5 buses with a Neobus body and 10 units of 15m Scania K 310 Euro 5 buses with a Neobus body.
The new busses are expected to improve the country's public transport system with a dedicated urban bus corridor, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).
As per terms of the contract, Scania will also offer workshop services for the entire fleet, vehicle follow-up as well as driver training and coaching.
Scania México's Managing Director Arnaud Dordilly said the company is delighted to expand its business to also include city buses.
"Our strategy of providing service at bus operators' workshops is also contributing to our success in this segment," Dordilly added.
All the buses will feature a body built by the Brazilian company Neobus and will be used on the new 21.3km Mexibus line 2, which is one of the Mexico's longest bus corridors with 42 stops.
According to the company, the route is expected to serve some 211,000 passengers per day and will run through Cuatitlán Izcalli.
