Founded in 2006, Liquavista was taken over by Samsung in 2010
Online retail company Amazon.com has bought the producer of a low-power colour-screen display unit, Liquavista, from the Korea-based Samsung Electronics for an undisclosed amount.
With the acquisition, Amazon will be able to develop new displays for its own mobile devices like e-book readers, smart phones, GPS devices, portable media players, cameras and tablets.
The colour-screen display unit is based on a technology called electrowetting to make displays clearer and to show videos by using less power.
According to the company, Liquavista can be operated in three modes including the transmissive, reflective and transflective, while offering enhanced optical performance.
Dutch electronics company Koninklijke Philips, which was taken over by Samsung in 2010, had founded Liquavista in 2006.
