Japanese carmaker Honda is planning to invest about $215m in its Ohio operations in the US to add new powertrain technology and setting up of two technical training centres.
Honda will invest about $180m at its Anna, Ohio, engine plant for to boost its capabilities on aluminum die casting and the production of engine components related to the new Honda Earth Dreams Technology engines and transmissions, in addition to a new training centre for powertrains.
The remaining $35m will be spent on construction of a new 160,000ft2 building at its Marysville, Ohio, assembly plant, which will house a training facility, a heritage centre and office space for Honda's new shared services firm.
Both the training centres will train the company's engineers, equipment service technicians and line-side associates in developing skills that would improve their technical awareness in a practical environment.
Honda North America senior vice president Rick Schostek said: "Even as we introduce more sophisticated technologies in our products and in our plants, we are working to ensure that our associates are equipped with the skills required for the manufacturing requirements of the future."
The latest investment brings Honda's overall spending in its North American operations to about $2.7bn in the last three years.
