UK-based KM Packaging Services has unveiled a new lidding film which is designed to increase the shelf-life of chilled ready meals.
According to the company, the new film caters to street food brands that are looking for shelf-appeal and offers superior transparency to enhance the display of ready meals.
In addition, it is designed for sealing to lacquered aluminum foil trays and can withstand rigorous retort manufacturing processes while preserving reliable seal integrity.
KM Packaging developed a bespoke polyester based film laminate which offers required performance requirements and seal security as well as allows the product to achieve shelf-life of 28 days which is twice as long as the shelf life of chilled ready meals currently available.
KM Packaging managing director Charles Smithson said that chilled ready meals are quite a challenge for both manufacturers and retailers.
"The product not only has to achieve technical excellence but its visual appeal must justify its premium pricing. Bought by a more discerning consumer, these meals are intended to pass as home-made or purchased as a special treat; they don't fly off the shelves like the value ranges do," Smithson added.
KM Packaging offers films for sealing food trays, tubs and pots for ambient, frozen or chilled prepared convenience foods as well as flexible packaging materials such as aluminium foil wraps, laminates, pouches and bags for confectionery manufacturers.
