The Products Recalls Include 8,730 'kirkland Signature Foster Farms' Rotisserie Chickens

Costco’s El Camino Real store, based in San Francisco, California, is recalling about 39,755 pounds of rotisserie chicken products over concerns of Salmonella Heidelberg contamination, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said.

The products being recalled include 8,730 'Kirkland Signature Foster Farms' rotisserie chickens, 313 units of 'Kirkland Farm' rotisserie chicken soup, rotisserie chicken leg quarters, and rotisserie chicken salad.

These products were sold to consumers in a Costco outlet at 1600 El Camino Real, South San Francisco between 11 September and 23 September 2013.

FSIS worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the California Department of Public Health and the County of San Mateo Public Health Department.

The problem was determined through epidemiologic and traceback investigations that there is a link between the Costco El Camino Real rotisserie chicken products and this illness outbreak.

FSIS is continuing to work with CDC, public health partners in California and Costco on the investigation and will continue provide information as it becomes available.

Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella could cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness, which can be life-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems such as infants, elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.
