TI Has Launched The TPS65090, The Single-Chip, Front-End Power Management Unit Chip

Based on the ARM Cortex A9 and A15 processors

Texas Instruments (TI) has launched the TPS65090, the single-chip, front-end power management unit (PMU) chip which it is claimed can extend the battery life of tablets and other portable electronics by 20%.

The chip has been designed for battery-powered applications based on ARM Cortex A9 and A15 processors.

The board consists of a 4-A switching PowerPath charger, three 5-A DC/DC step-down converters, seven load switches, two always-on LDOs and a 10-channel analog-to-digital converter (ADC).

The board occupies 60% less space compared to the isolated parts and offers about 15 services, TI said.

TI claims that the IC also performs tasks including faster charging with the integrated 4-A multi-cell switching charger and advanced power control with the power switches and the 10-bit ADC.
