Driveline and chassis technology provider ZF Friedrichshafen has acquired TRW Automotive Holdings for an undisclosed amount.
TRW Automotive manufactures and supplies aftermarket products, braking products, chassis, commercial steering products, electronics, engine components, engineered fasteners, and occupant restraints for vehicle manufacturers worldwide.
Based in the US, TRW will be incorporated into ZF as a new division called Active & Passive Safety Technology, which will operate under the name ZF Friedrichshafen.
TRW president and CEO John C. Plant said: "The combined company is a powerhouse of automotive technologies, ranging from driver assistance and occupant safety systems, to drivelines and transmissions, and braking and steering systems.
"This unique combination of advanced technologies comprehensively addresses the growing, industry-wide trends of safety, fuel efficiency and autonomous driving."
ZF and TRW have signed a merger agreement to this effect in September last year.
The closing of the transaction follows approval from TRW stockholders and antitrust clearances in various countries and regions such as the U.S., China, and the EU.
