While Punjab’s contribution in the total crop declined by 20.91 percent from last year’s 11.99 million bales to 9.48 million bales this year, that of Sindh increased by 27.05 percent from 2.68 million bales to 3.4 million bales. Meanwhile, Balochistan contributed 53,025 bales.

On sales side, textile mills procured around 11.85 million bales from ginners, while around 0.34 million bales were sold to exporters, leaving behind an unsold stock of 0.69 million bales with the ginners, PCGA Chairman Mahesh Kumar said.

At present, only about 54 of the total 1200 odd ginning factories are operational in Punjab and Sindh, and hence, cotton output for the current season is likely to remain at about 13 million bales, he added.
