More than 2.6 million bales of cotton have reached ginneries in Pakistan by September 15, 2013, according to the latest fortnightly cotton arrival report released by the Pakistan Cotton Ginneries Association (PCGA). The report says of the over 2.6 million bales of cotton arrival till September 15, about 2.43 million bales were pressed at ginneries. Of these, 2.317 million bales were sold leaving an unsold stock of over 112,000 bales, the data showed. However, the data could not be compared with the previous cotton arrival, as the data was not collected during the same period last year. Of the total 2.317 million bales sold, 2.211 million bales were bought by domestic textile mills, while the remaining 106,000 bales were procured by exporters. Cotton arrival in the Punjab region is slow compared to the arrival in Sindh. By September 15, about 931,000 bales of cotton arrived in Punjab, while the corresponding figure for Sindh was 1.695 million bales. Only 509 out of the nearly 1,200 ginning units are currently operational in the Punjab and Sindh regions.
