Honda Australia Cut The Prices and Increased The Specification

Honda Australia has cut the prices and increased the specification of its petrol-electric Honda Civic Hybrid and Honda Insight.

The Civic Hybrid sedan (below) is now $2000 cheaper at $33,990 before on-road costs.

The cabin gains satellite navigation with SUNA live traffic updates, DVD player, reversing camera with guidelines, and smart key entry with push-button start, while daytime running lights are fitted on the outside.

Honda has also lopped $3000 from the Insight (top), reducing the entry-level VTi to $26,990 and the top-spec VTi-L to $30,490.

Honda Australia director Stephen Collins said the repositioning of the two hybrid models demonstrated the brand’s commitment to offering customers the best value cars that suited their lifestyles.

The Honda Civic Hybrid has a combined cycle fuel rating of 4.4 litres per 100km, while the smaller Honda Insight undercuts it at 4.3L/100km.

Sales of the Insight have dropped dramatically this year, down from 147 in the first half of 2012 to just 31 in the corresponding months of 2013.

Official VFACTS sales data simply records Civic sales and does not split the hybrid from the regular models. At the time of the car’s launch, Honda anticipated it would account for just five per cent of Civic sedan sales.
