The Department of Textile Technology under the School of Chemical Engineering, Vignan University, Vadlamudi, Guntur District organized a one-day seminar on the topic entitled “Textile Industry: A Perspective on Future Potential Growth” on 6th April 2013.
The Chief Guest for the seminar Dr.A.Mukhopadhyay, Advisor/Scientist ‘G’, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi emphasized the reversal of options of students towards the core industry as the product sector is given more prominence than service sectors.
The guest of honor Sri P Ajay Kumar, Board of Director, NSL Textiles Ltd. reinforced the need of youth in the industry rather than in office automation and he indicted to students the career opportunities in textiles and allied industries. Sri V.S.Bala Subramanian, Assistant General Manager, Textile Machinery Division, Voltas Ltd., Hyderabad, the guest of honor projected the developments in textile industry and role of machinery maintenance in textile industry.
The Vice Chancellor, Vignan University, Prof. M S C Bose made an observation that there is a more shift towards the production sector. The Registrar, Sri A. Leela Mohan Rao reiterated that food, clothing and shelter are unending requirements and hence one can embark entrepreneurships in these areas. The Director DET, Dr. V.
Madhusudhan Rao emphasized the importance of Textile industry at national and global levels. The Director of Research, Dr. K V Radhakishan, narrated the pros and cons of the present day IT and core sectors.
The Dean of Chemical Engineering, Dr. C Ranga Rao indicated that the Vignan University aptly took the initiative to meet the requirements of the local needs as the district of Guntur is the hub for cotton production. Around 200 delegates participated in thisone-day seminar from various textile industries and academic institutions.
On this occasion, the Textile Testing Laboratory in Vignan University was inauguratedceremoniously by the Chief Guest, Dr. A. Mukhopadhyay. The Chairman of Vignan Group, Dr.Lavu Rathaiah and Sri L. Krishna Devarayalu graced the occasion.
The Directors, Deans,HODs and Professors of Vignan University interacted with Dr. A. Mukhopadhyay on thesubjects related to research in engineering disciplines. Sri P. Ashok Kumar, Head, School of Chemical Engineering, Vignan Universitycoordinated the program.
