The Imports of Textiles and Apparels by Brazil Grew by 25.4% and 17.3% Y-O-Y in April'13

 Brazil's Textile & Apparel Imports Rise 25.4% in April’13

The imports of textiles and apparels by Brazil grew by 25.4 percent year-on-year in value and 17.3 percent year-on-year in volume, amounting to 104,800 tons in April 2013, according to the latest data. 
 
In the clothing sub-sector, the imports increased by 51.1 percent year-on-year in value and 45.5 percent year-on-year in volume during the month.
 
From January to April 2013, Brazil’s textile and clothing imports totaled US$ 2.4 billion, showing an increase of nine percent year-on-year. Clothing sector imports grew at a faster pace of 12.7 percent year-on-year to US$ 957 million.
 
In April, the number of employees in the Brazilian textile and clothing industry increased by 5,315, registering a growth of 69 percent compared to an increase of 3,140 employees during the corresponding month last year, according to the figures released by the Registrar of Employed and Unemployed (CAGED).
 
The apparel segment production in Brazil dipped 11.36 percent year-on-year, but grew by 2.7 percent month-on-month in March 2013, for which data is available with IBGE. For the textile sector, production decreased by 8.06 percent year-on-year and 0.4 percent month-on-month.
 
During January to April this year, there was a decline of 7.11 percent year-on-year in Brazilian textile sector production, while the drop in clothing sector production stood at 7.05 percent year-on-year.
