A New Campaign Will Help Get More Shoppers Into Independent Stores This Easter

A new campaign will help get more shoppers into independent stores this Easter.

The 'Enjoy an Independent Easter' activities will take place in some 50 towns UK-wide the campaign, supported by the British Independent Retailers Association and others.

It aims to create "fun, family-friendly activities to connect local people with their local independent traders, raising awareness in the community of the excellent businesses that are right on their doorsteps, increasing footfall and ultimately re-engaging the community with their local high street".

Organisers say retailers may see a short term sales increase as a result of the campaign, but emphasises that the benefits are longer term, by encouraging consumers to head to their local stores more often in the future.

"With 16 per cent of independent businesses fearing closure in 2013 it’s imperative that something is done," read another statement.

Retail champion Clare Rayner said: "The Enjoy an Independent Easter campaign is intended to have a positive social and economic impact on the communities involved.

"To make a difference, to turn around the fortunes of our local areas, we have to start by re-engaging the people in the communities with the businesses that trade there. We can help our High Streets by bringing consumers and businesses together. Through our Indie Easter Egg Hunt we aim to achieve that for the benefit of all those involved."
