Leading Australian-owned company Materials Handling reached a major milestone last week, celebrating 32 years in business.
John Brittain, a well-known identity in the materials handling industry, launched the company on April 10, 1981 – and he has never looked back.
After leaving school John worked for three large engineering supply companies, but decided he might do better on his own.
The name of the original company was MatHand Pty Ltd – an abbreviation of Materials Handling, as the current company name was taken at that time.
The company now represents hundreds of Australian and overseas manufacturers with products such as manual handling, access equipment, conveyors, lifting equipment, packaging equipment, storage systems, vacuum systems, waste management, warehouse automation and safety systems.
Materials Handling also manufactures its own Cleanline and CASI conveyor systems and custom engineered solutions.
John’s major projects include the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of the large revolving restaurant for Travelodge – now the Crowne Plaza in Surfers Paradise.
The company currently has office warehouse complexes in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, with agents in other states for a full national sales and service capability. Materials Handling Pty Ltd is now one of six companies in the group servicing a myriad of industries with associated products.
