South Africa was the destination for a roadshow with Robe, Avolites and LumenRadio from 30 October - 2 November 2012. The event was put together by DWR Distribution and demonstrations were held in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
The UJ Theatre, The Playhouse Company and the Baxter Theatre were the hosting venues.
Overseas representatives promoting their latest equipment were Robe's Josef Valchar and Harry von den Stemmen, Phil Blue from Avolites and Peter Kirkup from LumenRadio.
"I feel like I'm coming home every time I come to South Africa," commented von den Stemmen. "When we do demos like these we never arrive with an average mix of products but choose novelties to show clients something different."
Robe focussed on the Robin DLX, DLS and DLF which are versatile and of equal interest to television studios, clubs and just about any application. "We also brought in the Actor 3, 6 and 12 series, the MMX Spot and LED series," said Josef Valchar. "The response has been good."
For Avolites the emphasis was presenting the new Saphire Touch. "It's nice to have the first and only one at the moment in South Africa," said Blue. "The DWR team rocks and there were sleepless nights with the initial programming, but it looked great." The Saphire Touch has already been purchased by Stage Effects who agreed to make the console available for the roadshow.
Lumen Radio was represented by newly appointed Peter Kirkup who enjoyed his first trip to the Africa continent. "I'm really excited to be here and to learn more of the market," said Kirkup. "It's great to meet such friendly, happy people. At the roadshow I've discussed not only on the ability to make a wireless DMX link, but also to use RDM to manage fixtures from Supernova Software."
For Duncan Riley from DWR it was great to meet up with the industry across the country. "It was an honour to have Josef, Harry, Phil and Peter with us and I appreciate them coming out all this way. It has been great to see the products and to spend a lovely time with clients."
