TSMC to make the A6X chip used in iPad4

Apple has entered into a contract with the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for the microchips used in various iPads.

The contract is said to be a part of the company's strategy to continue the momentum of Apple's market share versus its competitor Samsung.

As a part of the contract, TSMC will manufacture the A6X chip that will be used in the iPad4, which is scheduled to start production in the first quarter of 2013.

Apple and Samsung have had disputes over patent rights in various countries, with the latter appealing the court judgment of paying about $1bn to the former in July 2012 in the US.
