Japanese carmaker Honda has unveiled the new micro-sized Micro Commuter Prototype electric vehicle (EV).

The new EV is developed to comply with vehicle segments for micro-sized mobility products as part of the initiatives of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in Japan as well as for the Europe's policy for the L7 category.

Powered by a lithium-ion battery that generates a maximum output of 15kW, the EV is also supported by an electric motor and control unit, which allows the prototype to offer a maximum speed of 80km/h.

Features of the new model include a user-owned tablet device for the application of operations including meter display, navigation, audio and back-up camera display, and its battery can be charged through solar cells placed on top of the vehicle.

Honda is also planning to develop onboard solar cells that offer solar energy to help the driving.

In addition, the carmaker is planning to test new vehicles based on the prototype model in Japan in 2013.
