OPG Says It Has Substantially Completed Construction of The Darlington Energy Complex

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) says it has substantially completed construction of the Darlington Energy Complex, which will serve as the headquarters for the refurbishment of the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station (DNGS) and support ongoing station operations into the future.

The 300,000-sf building, located adjacent to DNGS in Clarington, Ont., will house a “technologically advanced training centre, a full-scale mock-up of the reactor core and tool testing facility that is vital to train, test and qualify the many people needed to complete the refurbishment project work”.

“The construction phase of this project has gone extremely well,” said Tom Mitchell, president and CEO of OPG. “I’m proud to say that we are ahead of schedule and under budget, and it reflects OPG’s principle of strong project management.”

The Darlington Energy Complex will also include office space for 450 staff, a public information centre with interactive educational displays, and a 64,000-sf warehouse. Construction of the building will be complete by June 2013.
