Panel makers expect to see increased vehicle display shipments in 2013.
Innolux is expected to tackle the high-end vehicle industry in the US and Europe, with industry estimates stating the company is likely to ship at least 14 million of the displays in 2013 followed by on-year growth throughout 2014 and into 2015.
Industry sources said that Innolux is likely to ship mostly 10.25-inch LCD displays, which have already been certified by customers in the US and Europe.
The company believes its performance is likely to benefit from vehicle display revenues in 2013 as demand for the units continues to grow and as the average-size vehicle display is increasingly larger, noted the sources.
Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) meanwhile expects its vehicle display shipments to increase to 7.2 million units in 2013, up from 4.10 million in 2012, and later to 10 million units in 2014.
Most of CPT's customers are expected to be in Japan and the US, with the Japan-based customers planning to further expand in the China market.
The sources added that touch interfaces in high-end vehicles are also showing promising business opportunities for the panel makers.
Market estimates indicate the vehicle display market is likely to reach 70 million units in 2016, but the sources believe the number will be higher.
