ABB has been awarded contracts to supply solar inverters for two large-scale greenfield PV projects in the United Kingdom. The inverters are to be installed in bespoke containers designed by the client.
ABB in the UK will supply 14 x 630 kilowatt (kW) central inverters for two ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) power plants, both located in the south of the UK. The total size of both plants is approximately 11 MW. The plants will produce approximately 11,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean energy annually and save approximately 9,900 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
ABB has gained a stable market position in the UK solar power market since entering the business couple of years ago. The first ABB central inverters in the UK have been successfully operating since 2011 in a 4.99 MWp, ground-mounted PV plant in Wiltshire. These new deals are strengthening ABB's position in the solar inverter market even more. "At the moment, the UK PV market is very buoyant, especially regarding large ground-mounted installations. Even with reductions in government funding support for PV installations, the ongoing expectation is that the number of large-scale installations will increase in 2013 and beyond." says Steve Moore , Sales Manager for solar inverters in the UK. "The high efficiency, competitive pricing, local technical support and small physical size were the important aspects of why ABB was selected as the inverter supplier on these projects."
The ABB central inverter series, rated from 100 to 630 kW, is designed for multi-megawatt PV power plants as well as large and medium-sized installations in commercial and industrial buildings. With the central inverter's certification as well as advanced and flexible grid support functions, it is possible to meet all applicable network connection requirements, regardless of where the project is located. To help secure the highest return on investment, ABB supports its customers with a dedicated global service network providing a complete range of life cycle services in more than 60 countries.
