Exports of Indian Yarn Have Been Steadily Growing in The Past Three Years

Exports of Indian yarn have been steadily growing in the past three years and have now touched 33 percent of overall yarn production in fiscal year 2013-14 from 26 percent in 2011-12.

According to yarn production and export figures available on the PIB website, yarn production in 2011-12 stood at 5835 million kgs of which 1542 million kgs or 26 percent was exported.

Provisional yarn output figures for 2013-14 indicate that yarn output surged to 6603 million kgs of which 2207 million kgs or 33 percent was exported.

Exports of manmade filament yarn have scripted the highest hike growth in the three-year period.

Exports of this variety of yarn have surged from 38 percent of production in 2011-12 to 52 percent of production in 2013-14. Production of manmade filament yarn in the period also rose from 550 million kgs to 671 million kgs.

Exports of cotton yarn as a percentage of production also shot up from 24 percent in 2011-12 to 33 percent in 2013-14.

In the same fiscal years, production of cotton yarn also mounted to 3126 million kgs in 2011-12 to 3928 million kgs in 2013-14.
