PPG Industries’ aerospace business celebrated 4,000 consecutive days of manufacturing safety yesterday at its Application Support Center in Suzhou (ASC-Suzhou). The facility was recognized by the Suzhou New District Work Safety Administration Bureau for its efforts and contributions in production safety management during a ceremony attended by officials from Suzhou New District government, the PPG Aerospace Asia Pacific management team and PPG’s environment, health and safety (EHS) function leadership.

ASC-Suzhou, which achieved 4,000 days of operation with no recordable injuries or lost work days, was established in 2002 to meet the needs of major aerospace original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and the rapidly growing maintenance-and-repair (MRO) market in the Asia Pacific region. It is one of 16 global ASCs for PPG Aerospace, which is committed to manufacturing safety and adherence to strict Chinese national and local laws, as well as PPG EHS policies. ASC-Suzhou has won the annual PPG Global EHS Award three times, as well as winning an Excellent Ergonomics Project Award in 2012.

“ASC-Suzhou is dedicated to fueling the growth of the China aerospace manufacturing industry by providing quality aerospace products as well as efficient, convenient and flexible services, including a localized technical support network,” said Paul Bowman, PPG general manager, aerospace materials, Asia Pacific. “Notably, ASC-Suzhou practices exemplary safety management while accelerating business growth.”

PPG strives to provide its employees with healthy and safe workplaces, Bowman said. “In fact, our EHS management system helps ensure we conduct all business activities in a responsible manner that protects employees, neighbors, customers and the environment.”

Richard Ren, PPG director of environment, health and safety, Asia Pacific, said, “ASC-Suzhou’s admirable EHS record has helped PPG Aerospace establish a reputation as a reliable business partner to our customers, which to some extent has helped pave the way for our rapid growth in China. As a responsible corporate citizen, PPG will continue to strengthen our EHS management system going forward.”
