Taiwan-based LED driver IC suppliers Richtek Technology, Macroblock and On-Bright Electronics are expected to see shipments boom in 2013 on anticipated growth in LED demand for backlight and lighting applications, according to industry sources.
Richtek said earlier that it expects its sales to grow 5% sequentially in the first quarter of 2013, driven by orders for its power management ICs from the LCD TV and tablet sectors as well as orders for its OLED driver ICs from the smartphone segment.
Macroblock, which saw its revenues hit a record high in 2012, expects sales of LED driver ICs to contribute more significantly to its revenues and profitability in 2013, notably starting the second quarter of the year.
On-Bright has been shipping its LED driver ICs to branded LED TV and LED lighting vendors in Korea and China, and expects shipments of LED driver ICs to double in 2013. Overall, On-Bright aims to ramp its revenues by 30% in 2013, while maintaining its gross margin at over 50%, according to the company.
