The Rajasthan Government Proposes to Train 35,000 Workers in The Textile Industry

Looking to benefit from the substantial workforce it has,the Rajasthan government proposes to train 35,000 workers in the textile industry during the span of the 12th Five Year Plan(2012-17).Pursuant to a programme backed by the Union Textiles Ministry and the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation(RIICO),the Apparel Training and Design Centre(ATDC)would train the said workers.

Training would be imparted through SMART(skills for manufacturing apparels through research and training)TOT(training of trainers)Academy and 25 ATDC-SMART centres,ATDC Vice Chairman Hari Kapoor said while speaking at the'Vastra-2012'textile seminar.Making the state a preferred investment destination,the vast workforce also gives the state an edge over other competitor states,Mr.Kapoor said.

Over next one decade,around 17 million jobs are seen coming up in the textiles and clothing sector,including 9.34 million jobs for diploma holders,engineers,vocationally trained and other graduates.The Union Government has established SMART centres all across the country,while ATDC and RIICO have jointly trained around 6,800 workers in Rajasthan at 14 ATDC-SMART centres and skill camps in the state,by now.
