Character Group PLC saw its international sales rise 25 per cent in the six months ending February 28th, 2013.

It said Peppa Pig, Fireman Sam, Doctor Who, Scooby Doo, Let's Cook and Construct-a-Bugz were the most popular brands.

However, the company said it was disappointed with the trading results, despite them being marginally ahead of initial expectations.

Revenue in the period was £30.59 million, against £44.25 million in the comparable 2012 period.

Gross profit in the period amounted to around £8.24 million, compared to £16.49 million in 2012, after taking into account stock write-downs, due to a higher level of clearance sales.

Chairman Richard King said: "Our strategy remains to seek out and develop exciting products which meet domestic and international market demand.
