The Coal Producing State of Australia, Totaled 3.5 Million Mt

In the week ended December 31, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 3.5 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes an increase of 23.6 percent compared to the 2.86 million mt of coal shipments recorded in the previous week, following a week-on-week decrease of 12.6 percent recorded in the week ended December 24.

In the whole of December, Newcastle port exported 13.1 million mt of thermal and coking coal, exceeding the port authority's forecast of 12.35 million mt for the given month.

Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
