API Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ: ATNY) (“API” or the “Company”), a leading provider of high performance RF, microwave, millimeterwave, power, and security solutions, has won Product of the Year honors for its QBS-609 1-kW pulsed power amplifier. The award was given by Electronic Products, a leading trade publication for electronic design engineers.
The Gallium Nitride (GaN) based, solid state QBS-609 is a high performance and cost effective replacement for traveling wave tubes (TWT). The amplifiers’ long life, and reduced size and weight offer longer life and improved efficiencies.
Products of the Year winners were announced in the January 2015 issue of Electronic Products, part of Hearst Electronics Group, the largest publisher of product information to the electronics industry. The editors of Electronic Products evaluated hundreds of products launched in 2014, selecting the winning products on criteria such as innovative design, significant advancement in technology or application, and substantial achievement in price and performance.
Richard Graham, vice president & general manager, RF/Microwave and Microelectronics (RF2M-US), API Technologies said, “Continuously innovating and leveraging technologies – like GaN – to drive performance and cost advantages for our customers are core to what we do. We are pleased by both this prestigious recognition from Electronic Products and positive customer reception to this product line.”
As reported in a June 2014 study by Research and Markets, the global market for power amplifiers market is expected to grow to more than $1.6 billion by 2020, with RF GaN-based devices anticipated to account for more than 18% of the overall RF device market by the same year. API’s offering includes power amplifiers and a number of GaN-based solutions designed to address emerging requirements. “Given the market’s accelerated adoption of GaN technology and our growing catalog of differentiated products, API Technologies is poised to take advantage of this growing trend,” added Graham.
Applications for API’s GaN-based pulsed power amplifiers include numerous military and high end commercial applications including radar, communication transmitters, and jamming systems. A complementary line of broadband GaN power amplifier drivers provide a complete, front-to-back amplifier solution for applications requiring high levels of gain and output power.
