Welsh Government Signed 70m Five-Year Extension to It Services Contract with Atos

The Welsh government has signed a pound 70m five-year extension to its IT services contract with Atos

Atos currently manages the entire core IT infrastructure for government in Wales, which includes more than 600 servers and 7,000 personal computers, which are based at more than 120 locations.

Under the arrangement, Atos manages a “multi source” environment, including a number of IT providers.

Atos has worked with the government since it was devolved in 1998, formerly under the Merlin consortium.

“As well as securing value for money and the services we need for Welsh government, we were particularly keen to ensure that we didn’t jeopardise the potential for longer term developments that could provide benefits across the public sector," said Gillian Morgan, Welsh government permanent secretary. "We believe this option gives us the value, service and flexibility we were looking for.”
