The Shahid Rajaee Port Would Become The Largest Cotton Transit Terminal in Central Asia

As soon as the private sector concludes the work of setting up the offloading and onloading unit at the Shahid Rajaee port in the port city of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran, the port would become the largest cotton transit terminal in Central Asia.   Briefing media, Ali Estiri, Head of the Ports and Shipping Office in Hormuzgan Province, said the new facility being set up at a cost of 280 billion rials, would boost the cotton transit capacity of the port by three times.

Spanning on an area of 15 hectares with 6 km long railway track, the new facility would have an onloading and offloading capacity of 80,000 tons of cotton per annum, Mr. Estiri said, according to IRNA.   Work in respect of 3 km of railway track has already been completed, while the work is about 40 percent complete for the remaining track, he said.   Once the project is completed, Central Asian exporters would be able to ship several goods, including cotton, from the region to Persian Gulf and Southeast Asian countries.   Bandar Abbas is the capital of Hormozgan Province situated on the southern coast of Iran.
