"Our long term goal is to serve as a time capsule for future generations," says Salem Toy Museum
The Salem Toy Museum in Massachusetts has taken to Kickstarter to help raise funds to relocate.
The independently owned US museum preserves toy pop culture and history, and has turned to the crowdfunding site to relocate to better house and display the current collection.
Funds will also be used to create a bigger and better display area for the collection currently in storage.
"Our long term goal is to serve as a time capsule for future generations; not only are the toys themselves key but the sense of pop culture surrounding them, as well as the historical significance, is of great importance," said co-owners Frank Sarcia and James Eveleth.
"Especially in terms of what I consider to be the golden age of toys, the 1950s through the end of the 1970s, there is a collective wealth of shared memories.
"There is but a handful of people dedicated to preserving this important part of pop culture and sharing it for years to come. It’s so much more than toys, it is the design, the graphics, the advertising, and, in many cases, the cross-promotion between platforms such as TV tie-ins, movie-related toys, toys that spawned cartoons, and cartoons that were created for the sole purpose of having a toy to market and sell.
"The Salem Toy Museum is a celebration of the classic toys we all grew up with."
The project has a goal of $5,000 and has raised $480 at the time of writing. There is 27 days left to donate to the campaign.
