A new toy project is vying for funds on Kickstarter.
Stompadon is an eight-inch plush toy dinosaur who was originally created as part of a design competition in the US.
The proposed toy has a corresponding kids story book, titled Stompadon: The Book, which explores the story of Stompadon's birth and how he saves his family from the evil Grumpasaurus...
The project has so far reached almost $3,000 of its $14,000 goal.
Those who pledge $20 on Kickstarter will receive a PDF copy of the book, as well as a Stompadon plush. By pledging more funds, backers can receive other Stompadon goodies, including clay figures and original paintings by Stompadon himself.
On Kickstarter, Stompadon's creators said: “Stompadon is an incredibly complex plush sculpt, with his unique hair, horns and eyeballs combo. We've already prototyped him with the factory, and know that the cost of the initial run of Stompadons will be about $10,000, not counting Kickstarter's cut, the cost of shipping it to the backers, or printing the children's book and prints.”
So far Kickstarter has proved to be an unreliable source of funding for toy-related projects, with Maze-O, Tinker Tablet and Krankin' all failing to reach their target funding. There has been a few successes, though, including the Android robot inspired R/C bot Bero.
