Japan-based Nichia will turn from reactive as in the past to proactive in filing patent infringement charges against Everlight Electronics, company chief legal officer Katsuyuki Akutagawa said at a press conference in Taipei on September 13.
Everlight has filed 22 lawsuits in Japan, four in China, one in Taiwan and one in Germany claiming the invalidity of Nichia's LED patents, Akutagawa indicated. Of the 22 lawsuits in Japan, 17 have been ruled in favor of Nichia and only one of Nichia's patents was found by the Japan Patent Office to be invalid, Akutagawa pointed out. In addition, Nichia won two of the for lawsuits in China.
