Detroit Electric revealed the exterior design of its first battery-powered SP:01 sports car which is scheduled for release next year.

The company unveiled the concept at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show and in the latest release the car has fastback configuration which has been designed to enhance airflow and reduce turbulence.

It also features front air intake and outlet ducts that are designed to optimize airflow to the heating and cooling system.

The makers of the two-seater car said that the car will be a hatchback which will provide longer range and higher speed

The company claims the SP:01 to be the world's fastest production electric sports car which will be capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and attain speed of 155 mph.

USA today reported Detroit Electric design chief Jerry Chung saying: "The final design of SP: 01 incorporates signature Detroit Electric design DNA, carried over from the prototype model we revealed last year.

"Coupled with many motorsport visual cues, the new fastback design, bold face and sharp contours evoke the company's vision of pure electric performance."
