Honda is seeking help from third party to audit whether the company underreported about fatal injury claims to the US Government related to faulty air bag.
The issue has been raised by Center for Auto Safety, which claims that the company did not inform the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of at least two injury-and-deaths related to the issue.
The third-party audit commenced in September and Honda is expected to share its findings with the NHTSA.
Center for Auto Safety is also reportedly asking the U.S. Justice Department to conduct a criminal investigation following the issue.
Bloomberg reported Honda saying that it excluded verbal claims of injuries until last month while reporting to the NHTSA due to fewer reports of incidents related to the issue.
Center for Auto Safety claims that the company did not include a 2009 fatality and an August 2013 incident in its early warning reports, which resulted in serious injury.
But the company denies the claim saying that it has furnished the detail information to NHTSA related to defects in Takata air-bag inflators.
