wehkamp.nl is a fast-growing online retailer in the Netherlands, selling fashion, IT accessories, telecommunication articles, furniture and household appliances.
The Dutch e-commerce company is experiencing a 15-20 per cent annual growth, with 1.7 million registered customers, 200,000 articles and 20 million shipments per year.
The company has decided to invest in a new high-performance distribution centre in the town of Zwolle, designed and fitted out by automation company Knapp.
The demands on the new wehkamp.nl distribution centre will be tremendous. Apart from the large number of shipments and a constantly changing range, the main concern of wehkamp.nl is to address the needs of customers. With a promise of 'same-and-next-day-delivery', the system needs to react fast and be able to deal with late-coming orders.
The KNAPP system has the OSR Shuttle technology at its core. The OSR Shuttle has a capacity of half a million storage locations and processes 98 per cent of the entire order volume. Ergonomically designed Pick-it-Easy work stations are used for goods-to-person picking in an intuitive workflow that reduces errors. With 'One-Touch-Picking' a customer order can be made ready for dispatch within 30 minutes of the order being received. Dispatch tasks, such as sorting and finishing (including document insertion and closing dispatch cartons or bags), are carried out automatically. The warehouse logistics software KiSoft guarantees efficient processing and permanent control spanning all processes.
The new warehouse is scheduled for start-up in 2015 and will be capable of shipping 200,000 items per day.
