ATLANTA — Strong upholstery and dining room business and larger sales tickets helped Havertys to a 7.2% second-quarter sales gain and a 4.8% same-store sales increase, the company reported.
For the quarter ended June 30, the Top 100 company posted $187.7 million in sales, up from $175.1 million for the same period last year. Through the first six months, sales totaled $379.1 million, up 6.2% from $356.9 million in the first half of 2014. Same-store sales for the most recent period were up 4.3%
Total written business in the second quarter was up 5% compared to a 2.4% increase for in the same period last year.
“Our 7.2% total delivered sales increase for the quarter was led by continued growth in the upholstery and dining categories,” Clarence Smith, chairman, president and CEO, said in a statement.
“Rug and other accessory merchandise sales are also rising with the expanding involvement of our in-home design team. The average sales ticket for the quarter was up approximately 3.3%.”
Havertys entered two new markets during the second quarter with store openings in Rogers, Ark., and Waco, Texas, and in January it opened a new showroom in Coconut Creek, Fla. This quarter, one new location is slated to open in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and the retailer will complete two major store renovations “as we continue to expand and improve our store portfolio,” Smith said.
Atlanta-based Havertys operates 122 midpriced to upper-midpriced stores in 16 Southern and Midwestern states.
