Telescope Casual Furniture for Outdoor, Patio

Telescope Casual Furniture did not start out by manufacturing outdoor, patio furniture. At its beginning in 1903 this outdoor furniture company was known as The Telescope Cot Bed & Novelty Company. It manufactured camp beds and stools with telescoping legs and hence the name.

Telescope's sawmill was located in what is now Telescope, Pennsylvania while the showroom was in New York City. Eventually,in the early 1930s the entire operation moved to Granville, New York.

Telescope introduced and patented its iconic and ubiquitous Director Chair in 1953. Since then it has introduced other innovative casual furniture such as replaceable slings and powder coated aluminum frames.

Telescope offers outdoor and patio furniture in aluminum, cast aluminum, wicker and marine grade polymer. The collections feature seating options in cushions, straps, and slings, along with beach chairs, folding furniture and market and drape umbrellas. The patio collections come in different finishes and fabric choices.

Featured here is Telescope's Adirondack Sling collection which has eco-friendly frames made out of marine grade polymer with over 30% recycled resin. This is oneof the easiest materials to care for and there is a choice of four different frame colors. There are 72 fabric options. The chair costs about $399, and the ottoman, about $199.

Telescope Casual Furniture products can be purchased from dealers nationwide, the company doesn't sell directly to consumers.

The Director Chair is one of the best known products from Telescope Casual Furniture. Telescope invented and patented the award-winning Director Chair in 1953. It ranked at number 46 on the Illinois Institute of Technology's list of 100 best designed items of modern times.

Replaceable seat covers are a very convenient feature of this chair as is being able to fold it. Not only is it a Hollywood favorite, it is popular for many other uses as well. You have probably seen it everywhere from small patio spaces to farmers markets to art fairs.

The chairs are handmade at Telescope's facility in Granville, New York, from North American hardwoods. These chairs are also available in FSC-certified wood, and Telescope is one of the companies that manufactures its furniture in America.

Marine grade polymer is one of the materials that Telescope has used to create several seating collections. For the Windward Collection, telescope used a frame constructed of marine grade polymer (available in several colors) and combined it with deep cushions.

Even though they seem to sit firmly on the ground, the Windward loveseat and arm chair can also rock on independent spring mechanisms. The loveseat retails for about $2,099. The arm chair is about $1,299.
