MP Yvette Cooper at the official opening of the new British Electric Lamps national distribution centre
Lighting manufacturer British Electric Lamps marked the opening of its new site with an appearance from local MP Yvette Cooper.
The lighting manufacturer and distributor has relocated to the Normanton Industrial Estate in West Yorkshire to give the company space to expand both its sales and warehousing departments.
The family run business, which has been distributing lamps since 1920,invested more than half a million pounds in its new national distribution centre.
"The new facilities are great and give staff more space and a modern, clean environment to work in,"said Cooper.
"I'm pleased that British Electric Lamps are doing so well and saving people money with the energy efficient bulbs they distribute."
The company currently employs 33 staff from the local area and hopes to generate a further ten jobs over the next year.
"We are delighted to be expanding in this current environment, generating opportunities for local businesses and creating employment for the Yorkshire region,"said Trevor Grote,MD of British Electric Lamps.
"It takes guts to invest when all the talk is of recession and cut backs. We are determined as a business to help generate growth and will continue to invest in hi-tech energy saving technologies."
