Mazda Motor, Along with Sumitomo, Has Inaugurated a Joint Venture Production Plant

Japanese carmaker Mazda Motor, along with Sumitomo, has inaugurated a joint venture production plant, Mazda de Mexico Vehicle Operation (MMVO), in Mexico.

MMVO is a joint venture established by Mazda and Sumitomo to improve operations of both companies in the Mexican market.

The plant is currently capable of producing 140,000 units annually. Mazda plans to increase the capacity of this plant to 230,000 units by fiscal year ending March 2016.

It is currently manufacturing Mazda3 for the US from January 2014. Following this, it will also produce the model for Central and South American, and European countries. The company will produce its Mazda2 model at this plant in the future.

Mazda representative director and board chairman Takashi Yamanouchi said that MMVO has three vital missions before it.

"Firstly, contribute to the growth of the automotive industry and the Mexican economy, as a good corporate citizen. Secondly, realize the fruits of our Structural Reform Plan and begin a new chapter in the history of Mazda," Yamanouchi added.

"And thirdly, contribute to the preservation of environment by making our SKYACTIV models available to more people around the world. We are absolutely committed to fulfilling these three missions, and will continue working towards them with our full power."
