BMW Notched up International Engine of The Year Awards at Engine Expo 2015

German automobile major BMW has notched up International Engine of the Year Awards at Engine Expo 2015 in Stuttgart, in recognition of its 1.5-litre three-cylinder electric-gasoline hybrid powertrain installed in the BMW i8.

In its stride for bagging the recognition, BMW aced out US automobile manufacturer Ford which could have otherwise made it four times in a row riding high on its 999cc three-cylinder turbo Ecoboost motor.

Ford bagged award for the Sub 1-litre category for its 1.0 Ecoboost engine, adding up to eight award hauls during the past four years.

The award ceremony was instituted to select and honor the best powertrain technology across the world after being judged by a panel of 65 industry experts drawn from 31 countries.

The 1.5-litre three-cylinder electric-gasoline hybrid powertrain by BMW emerged as the triple winner, walking away with New Engine award adjudged the most important engine development during the past 12 months.

Moreover, BMW brought another laurel to home in the 2.5-liter to 3-liter category for its 3-liter twin-turbo six cylinder in the M3 and M4.

Mercedes-AMG clinched the 1.8-litre to 2-litre award with the 2-litre turbo in its A45, CLA45 and GLA45 models, while PSA Peugeot Citron bagged an award under the 1-litre to 1.4-litre category riding high with 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo.
