Bmw Is Teaming up with SCHERM Group to Use a 40-Ton Pure-Electric Truck in Munich

BMW is teaming up with logistics company SCHERM Group to use a 40-ton pure-electric truck in Munich this summer.

By deploying the truck, BMW will become the first automaker in Germany to use a 40-ton electric truck to transport materials on public roads.

Under the agreement, the bus will cover the distance of two km one-way between SCHERM Group and the BMW Group Plant Munich, up to eight times a day.

According to BMW, the truck will only emit 11.8 tons less CO2 per year when compared to others in the market.

Without disclosing the amount, the German automaker said the both the companies have invested six-figure amount in the pilot project which will initially run over a span of one year, and based on the performance, the project could be expanded.

BMW Plant Munich director Hermann Bohrer said: "Just under two years ago, our BMW i brand put sustainable mobility on the road. This pure electric truck signals that we are constantly working on innovative solutions and tackling logistics challenges.

"We are therefore delighted with the cooperation with SCHERM."
