Chunghwa Telecom Co.,Ltd.'s president Y.S.Lee recently pledged the company will sign up 1,000 enterprise customers of cloud computing service in a year and double revenue from the service in 2013 to NT$1 billion(US$34 million at US$1:NT$29).
Lee said the company will begin next year to invest around NT$12 billion(US$413 million)in a cloud-computing park in Panchiao District of New Taipei City so that it can start to provide the service in 2014.This year,Taiwan's No.1 telecom carrier will set aside around NT$1 billion(US$34 million)for cloud-computing investment.
The company has built four cloud-computing centers and rolled out its Hicloud computing and cloud-based marketplace.
Citing the company's studies,Chunghwa Telecom executives pointed out that 50.9%of enterprises still prefer private cloud service.In line with the trend,the company has recently introduced the Hicloud private cloud service.
The executives said cloud computing business has begun budding this year and will thrive next year.Recently,the company won a contract to supply the Research,Development and Evaluation Commission under the Executive Yuan,with NT$100 million(US$3.4 million)worth of Internet Data Centers.
On cloud-computing business,Chunghwa Telecom has entered into alliance with cloud-computing companies,including Trend Micro Inc.,Microsoft Corp.,VMware Inc.,Hewlett-Packard Co.,Cisco Systems Inc.,NetApp,Tatung System Technologies Inc.,Chunghwa System Integration Co.,Ltd.,International Integrated Systems Inc.,and Sysage Technology Co.,Ltd.
