German carmaker BMW Group has recalled more than 134,000 5-Series cars in the US due to an issue with the vehicles' rear lights.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall is issued as increased electrical resistance can damage connections to the lights, further leading to failure of the affected cars' tail-lights, brake turn-signal, or backup lights.
The 5-Series models affected under this recall include 528i, 535i, 550i, and M5, which were launched between 2008 and 2010 and manufactured between 1 March 2007 and 31 December 2009.
The recall will be effective from October 2013, under which dealers will replace part of the rear lamp connections at no cost to customers.
However, the company claims that it has not received any reports of any accidents or injuries due to the problem.
The company also states that if the problem occurs, the cars give drivers visual and audible warnings about the risk.
