Mott MacDonald Oil & Gas Was Awarded a Contract for The Provision of Technical Support

Mott MacDonald oil & gas was awarded a contract for the provision of technical support services by CPE (China Petroleum Engineering) for Phase 2 and 3 of Halfaya oilfield in Iraq. The field is located near Amarah in south east Iraq and is operated by a consortium led by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).

Most of the work will be done in China by Chinese staff with some support provided by the UK and UAE offices. Technical support services will include complete 3D design and modelling and simulation study. The work will involve a mix of brownfield and greenfield projects.

Mott MacDonald successfully completed Halfaya Phase 1 which involved FEED (front end engineering design) of an oil processing facility and pipeline infrastructure.

The project, valued at USD9.5 million was won against heavyweight competitors such as Worley Parsons and is a key win for the British firm who is committed to expand its presence in OPEC’s second biggest oil producing country by quota.

With the Halfaya export pipeline to be completed in 2014 and Halfaya central processing facility of the phase 2 due to run in 2015, PetroChina and its partners are planning to double the production from the current 100,000 b/d to 200,000 b/d. With Halfaya Phase 3 CNPC and its partners, SOC, Petronas and Total are targeting to more than double the production again in order to reach the 535,000 b/d plateau by 2017.
