Hyundai Added a New Powetrain Option for The New 2015 Sonata Eco

South Korean automotive manufacturer Hyundai has added a new powetrain option for the new 2015 Sonata Eco in the US.

The 2015 Sonata Eco, which is scheduled to start production at the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama plant in late summer 2014, is expected to deliver combined fuel economy of 32mpg.

The new powertrain is a 1.6L turbocharged Gamma four-cylinder engine capable of producing an estimated 177hp and 195Nm of torque when paired with Hyundai's new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Sonata Eco is expected to offer an estimated 28mpg city and 38mpg highway fuel economy with the new powertrain, while its 32mpg combined fuel consumption is said to be 10% more compared to the 2015 Sonata SE powered by the 2.4L Theta II engine.

Hyundai product planning manager John Shon said Sonata Eco enhances the sophisticated design and confidence-inspiring driving dynamics of the 2015 Sonata with even more impressive fuel economy.

"This innovative powertrain improves fuel efficiency without sacrificing the driving experience," Shon added.

The new vehicle will include standard features of Sonata SE along with a chrome grille, side mirror-mounted turn signal indicators, automatic headlights and a 10-way power driver seat with lumbar support with stitching on the instrument cluster hood.

Interiors will also include chrome interior door handles, five-inch colour touchscreen audio, a rearview backup camera and Blue Link telematics system.

Technology Package variant of the sedan will feature blind spot detection system (BSD) with rear-cross traffic alert and lane change assist, chrome exterior door handles with welcome light, hands-free smart trunk auto open, 4.2-inch color LCD Multi-Info Display and eight-inch navigation system.
